Efficacy of Four Disinfectants Against Hepatitis B Virus
Authors
Abstract:
Background and Aim: Hepatitis B virus (HBV) is an important infectious agent in denti-stry necessitating the use of disinfectants to prevent its transmission. This study compared the efficacy of 2/100 sodium hypochlorite disinfectants prepared from 5% solution manufactured by four different manufacturers namely Ashimashi, Paknaz, Vitex and Active for disinfection of surfaces infected with HBV. Materials and Methods: In this in vitro experimental study, sera of 10 hepatitis B pa-tients were poured into microtubes and 2/100 sodium hypochlorite solutions prepared from 5% Ashimashi, Paknaz, Vitex and Active disinfectants were added to them in 1/1 ratio. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was performed using virus diagnostic kits to detect the viral genome. Real-time PCR was performed before and after incubation with the disinfectants to assess the viral load in the serum. The reduction in the viral load of HBV was statistically analyzed by Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney U tests. Results: No significant antiviral efficacy was noted following the application of Ashima-shi 2/100 sodium hypochlorite disinfectant. Paknaz showed the highest efficacy against HBV. Vitex and Active ranked next with significant differences (P<0.0001) Conclusion: Under the study limitations, Paknaz 2/100 sodium hypochlorite solution was the most effective while Ashimashi 2/100 sodium hypochlorite disinfectant did not show adequate efficacy against HBV.

Effectiveness of Four Disinfectants against Ebola Virus on Different Materials
The West Africa Ebola virus (EBOV) outbreak has highlighted the need for effective disinfectants capable of reducing viral load in a range of sample types, equipment and settings. Although chlorine-based products are widely used, they can also be damaging to equipment or apparatus that needs continuous use such as aircraft use for transportation of infected people. Two aircraft cleaning solutio...

Using direct chimpanzee inoculation as an assay method, we tested the abilities of the following chemical or physical treatments to inactivate hepatitis B virus in human plasma: 1% aqueous glutaraldehyde at 24 degrees C for 5 min, 0.1% aqueous glutaraldehyde at 24 degrees C for 5 min, 80% ethyl alcohol at 11 degrees C for 2 min, and heat at 98 degrees C for 2 min. All treatments were shown to b...

Background and Objectives: Foodborne illness is a common public health problem. Surfaces and equipment used in food production are involved in the spread of foodborne pathogens. The aim of this study was to evaluate and compare the antimicrobial effect of Vinoxide and Sanisept against Staphylococcus aureus strains isolated from food production lines. Material and Methods: In this descriptive s...

Virucidal efficacy was evaluated for four recently available disinfectants: chlorine dioxide, potassium peroxymonosulfate, a quaternary ammonium compound, and citricidal (grapefruit extract). Sodium hypochlorite (3%) and tap water were used as positive and negative controls respectively. Feline herpesvirus, feline calicivirus, and feline parvovirus were exposed to the manufacturers' recommended...

Background and Aims: Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is a serious global health problem affects many people. Recently, because of vaccination, the incidence of HBV infection has been reduced, but in high risk population also health care students (HCS) adequate immunization is serious. The aim of this survey was to evaluate HBV immunization in the population of the paramedical students based o...
